There has been a lot of talk about new legislation and emergency measures since the Decmber debacle. Most experts point toward action in early 2006. Does anybody have information on the concrete steps taken in this direction. i.e, beside the comprehensive immigration bill. which I assume will take a while so is not an early 2006 bet. Anything else in the offing? Any information will be much appreciated.

A million dollar question.
There are several things up in the air, and no one can predict how soon/when a bill will pop up. Comprehensive Immig Bill is a big elephant and could happen any time, or may not even happen,
But the key is to be prepared, to jump into that vehicle when it becomes available; Things move so fast, reaction isn't an option, it should be well planned action. Educating lawmakers, lobbying, a bit of media etc should position us well for any such vehicle that could come up (immig bill/appropriation bill/budget bill etc)

I hear you..After the recent wave of applications, I expect USCIS to have their hands full in processing receipt notices and EAD/AP for some time to come. I read in one of the forums that NSC (or TSC) has a deadline of 10/26 to issue all the receipt notices, extrapolating on that..they would probably start working on EAD/AP after that, and once that is done will there be any chance of PP coming back. (As you can see these are speculations on my part, Iam hoping for an earlier reinstatement, but am doubtful)

There is no process with SSN office to expedite the SSN application. You will have to wait 6 weeks to get the SSN.
In 2007, My wife applied for SSN and she had her SSN # in 12 weeks. The officer at SSN office forgot to take complete photocopy for her H1 so after 6 weeks they asked us to contacted us to come back for another photocopy.
My experience with SSN office is they are very slow to work.

Hmmmm, but I guess it also greatly depends on how many of those people are qualified and inclined to apply, right? Both India and China are undergoing massive development so I guess they get the bad end of the stick both ways - a huge population with a growing percentage of skilled and professional workers, many of whom seeking better work opportunities abroad.
Im not sure about the UK. I cant imagine that we reach our quota every year. I mean, working here doesnt seem to be much better or worse than working in the US, and our population while relatively large is ofcourse limited geographically. I get the impression that people from the UK generally try to move to the US for a better lifestyle, not necessarily for improved work opportunities (though I may be VERY wrong).
Does that mean that someone from the UK would have an advantage in getting a good priority date against someone from India or China? If so, what are we talking here? Weeks, months, years?
If this is the case, then I can very much see why so many are opposed to these quotas.

Not sure what you're saying here Ronnie. Lifestyle and social security are quite good in the UK. You get more leave, a more egalitarian system generally, more "free" social services etc in you homeland. If that is your objective, then I can't see your intent in immigrating here :):):)

Skills are mobile but public policy is not so as much. We are yet to see the final word spoken on this either in West or East as much!

I got the packet back last week and I had a letter along with the package. This is the message on that letter.
The above application or petition, along with any check or other form of
fee payment, is attached. The application or petition cannot be accepted
because the proper fee of $1010.00 U.S is not attached. Since the case
is not properly filed, a priority or processing date cannot be assigned.
Please attach a check or money order for this amount and resubmit this
entire package to the address listed below. To speed processing, please
leave this notice on top

Pre-Adjudication simply means that this application has been reviewed at least once and was eligible for visa number at that time.
At a later time, application can be issued visa number when it is available or can move to further review and/or RFE. Pre-Adjudication does not mean that application is immune for any future RFEs.

I was watching "Shashank redemption" the other day and in that the Hero wants to setup a library and he writes two mail every week to the authorities for 6 years. Finally he gets the donation for the library.. So what i am saying is everyone should write a letter to the president and send it every week Or someone collect all the letters and send it as a package every week to the president.

My Original passport was issued at mumbai in 1999.
I went to NY - Indian coulslate in Jan 2009 and I got year passport - they said they need Police CLearance from mumbai.
Apr 2009 Police came for inquiry at my mumbai resident.
Aug 2009 I went again to NY to extend my passport - they again gave me for 1 year and said police clearance not received yet.
I went again on Apr 30th 2010. This time they asked me to call me after 2 weeks.
I kept calling after 2 week and after month they still haven't received police clearance from Mumbai.
They suggested me to Call Regional passport office in mumbai and try to get updates from there.
Is there anybody in similar situation ? Is there a way to follow up in Mumbai?
Any help would be appreciated

There are approx 100K applicants waiting for 3k/year visa#(each category). Sure DOL/USCIS can improve the process so it's more predictable.
Problem:
India can't get unused visa# unless ROW are "C". If DOL makes "C" everyone then PD:2006 RD:2006 get the GC first before PD:2001 RD:2007. :)
So many state/govt agencies are involved in process and there is NO coherent process in place(For me LC took 5+ years where my friend got in 2 months). So it's come down to luck which should not be if govt have comprehensive process. :cool:
There are still about 35 people listed with priority dates before May 2001.
Just to extrapolate say 0.0% to 0.5% people register at .
Approximately number of applications could be between 7000 (at 0.5%) and 35000 (at 0.1%)
Without any law changes, chances of getting EB3 priority dates moving for India any time soon are very less.

Well, if one's situation is destined get messed up it will :mad: Many times non-desi, gora companies and their lawyers can make astounding mistakes that will affect non one but guys/girls like you and me.
You got it right - bottomline is, be it Indian, American, Chinese company, it finally boils down to $$. Companies wont bother you as long as you are billable. Consulting companies will not have problem paying you as long as you are earning. Big companies things might be different, there are hierarchial decisions made, things don't get communicated properly etc.... Small companies may have tax problems etc... No job is stable. And when it comes to dealing with immigration, it is very common that lawyers representing big companies make grave mistakes and at times get commercial or just beurocracy ....
